Erectile Dysfunction in Diabetic Patients in the Holy Kerbala/Iraq in 2018

Background
Erectile dysfunction affects more than 50% of diabetic patients and results in miserable
couple’s life, especially for young adults. Possible predictors are proper therapy and
patient’s compliance with treatment, in addition to the warning signs and symptoms of
sensory neuron and motor deficits. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the
prevalence of Erectile dysfunction and its predictors among diabetic patients in Kerbala.
Material and methods
The study included a convenient sample of 61 patients with diabetes mellitus type I and II.
They were chosen through a systematic sampling among patients at the diabetes mellitus
clinic at Al Hussein Teaching Hospital in Holy Kerbala /Iraq in 2018. All participants
were interviewed using standard questionnaire. Analysis of data used descriptive and
analytic tools including t-test, chi-square test, logistic regression and structural Equation
modeling through the statistical Package of social sciences and Amos and Excel software
at a significance level of

Association between the Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor (A370T) Gene Polymorphism with Lipid Profile in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Background: determining the genetic profile of diabetic patients with dyslipidemia is considered
important in terms of reducing the risk of possible vascular complications. Recent studies have
shown that the low density lipoprotein receptor gene may have a direct effect on lipids level and one
of its important genetic variants is the common single nucleotide polymorphism (A370T) that’s
produced by a guanine to adenine substitution in exon 8 in the epidermal growth factor precursor
homology region.
Aim: To evaluate the association between the low density lipoprotein receptor (A370T) single
nucleotide polymorphism with lipid Profile in type 2 diabetic patients with dyslipidemia.
Method: A case control study for total 180 subjects. 120 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (80
males and 40 females) and 60 patients of them were diagnosed previously with dyslipidemia, these
diabetic patients were compared with 60 (40 male and 20 female) healthy control subjects. The
blood sample collection were done at the outpatient department of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (as) Medical
City in holy Karbala/Iraq during the period from January to June 2017.
Results: The results obtained demonstrate that there is no relationship between the low density
lipoprotein receptor (A370T) single nucleotide polymorphism and dyslipidemia in patients with
type 2diabetes mellitus with no significant association between this polymorphism and the lipid
profile in these patients .
Conclusion: In the current study, the genotyping analysis results agreed with much of studies which
revealed that there is no relationship between the low density lipoprotein receptor ( A370T) single
nucleotide polymorphism and lipid levels in patients with type 2diabetes mellitus with and without
dyslipidemia.الخلفية:
ان تحديد الشكل الجيني للمرضى المصابين بالسكري واضطراب شحوم الدم يعتبر من المعايير المهمة في تقليل خطر الاصابة
بمضاعفات الاوعية الدموية لدى هؤلاء المرضى. وقد اظهرت الدراسات الجينية الحديثة بأن جين مستقبلات الدهون منخفضة الكثافة
والذي ينتج من (A370T) له تأثير مباشر على مستويات الدهون في الجسم وأحد اهم اشكاله الجينية هي تعدد الشكل النيوكليوتيدي
استبدال القاعدة النتروجينية الكوانين بالادينين في الموقع 8 من منطقة التماثل للعوامل البادئة .
الهدف
تقييم الارتباط بين تعدد الشكل النيوكليوتيدي لمستقبلات الدهون منخفضة الكثافة مع مستويات الدهون للمرضى المصابين بالنوع
الثاني لداء السكري واضطراب شحوم الدم.
الطريقة
اجريت الدراسة على 180 شخص, منهم 120 مريض بالنوع الثاني لداء السكري و 60 مريض منهم مصاب باضطراب شحوم الدم
بالاضافة للسكري , هؤلاء المرضى تمت مقارنتهم مع 60 شخص سليم. تم جمع عينات الدم في مستشفى الامام الحسين عليه السلام

النتائج
تتضمن النتائج عدم وجود علاقة بين تعدد الشكل النيوكليوتيدي لمستقبلات الدهون منخفضة الكثافة ومستويات الدهون في الاشخاص
المصابين بالنوع الثاني من داء السكري واضطراب شحوم الدم.
الاستنتاج
في الدراسة الحالية ,نتائج التحليل الجيني تتفق مع اغلبية الدراسات السابقة والتي تنص على عدم وجود علاقه بين تعدد الشكل
النيوكليوتيدي لمستقبلات الدهون منخفضة الكثافة ومستويات الدهون في الاشخاص المصابين بالنوع الثاني من داء السكري مع او
بدون اضطراب شحوم الدم.

Study the effect of physical exercises to decrease the dangerous of smoking By estimated some serological biomarkers

the smoke of cigarette consists of many harmful chemicals materials , such as , carcinogenic and free radicals, thus it cause damage for many organs of the body, also it affect on the lipid concentration of plasma. In this study we estimated the effect of exercises to decrease the dangerous of smoking by determination the level of lipid profile, TAC , Hs-CRP, MDA, AST and ALTtotal protein, in two groups of smokers one with exercise and the other is not, this study estimated the effect of sport in decrease the dangerous of smoking. Results showed that the level of lipid profile (total cholesterol, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C) have significant differences in all groups of smokers as comparison with control. There is a parallel increased in the level of plasma lipid as increase in number of cigarette per day. except leveles of HDL-C which increased with decrease of duration and intensity of smoking. The liver function test ALT, AST ALP, STB were significant deference at (P value≤0.05) when compare both groups A1 and A2 with control. Total protein, albumin, globulin, have significant deference when compare both groups A1, B1 and A2, B2 with control. TAC, Hs-CRP, MDA have significant deference when compare both groups A1, B1 and A2 with control.

Effect of phenolic compounds extract of S. melongena peels on Sugar levels and biochemical parameters in alloxan-induced Diabetic rats

Diabetes mellitus is a serious complex chronic condition that is a major problem of health
worldwide. Recent studies focused on the ability of phenol compounds in the treatment of
diabetes mellitus and its complications. In the present study, phenol compounds of Solanum
melongena peels were extracted and diagnosed using HPLC, and the extract administrated to
alloxan induced diabetic rat. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of phenol
extracts of S. melongena peels on sugar, lipid and liver enzymes in alloxan induced diabetes
in rats. Serum glucose level, lipid profile, GOT and GPT enzymes were estimated and results
were statistically calculated by ANOVA and the differences were considered significant at p
value ≤0.05. Results showed that the administration of phenols extract decreased the glucose
level in the phenols administrated diabetic rat. Also phenols extract decreased cholesterol,
triglyceride and LDL level, and increased serum HDL level diabetic rat. The phenol
compounds also showed the ability to detoxify liver via lowering GOT and GPT enzymes in
phenols administrated diabetic rat.

Relationship between polycythaemia with increased lipid profile

Results: This study involved research 64 patients (average age between 20 – 35 years ) suffering
from polycythaemia " diagnose by lipid profile performed pcv test ( packed cell volume ) "and
perform lipid profile test (Triglyceride , cholesterol , LDL , HDL ) and appearance of the results
found relationship between increased levels of lipid and polycythaemia disease . There results are

Conclusion from this study we can conclude from that the most polycythaemia patient blood
stream very slow due to the cholesterol deposit to the vine wall.

Hypolipidemic effect of date palm pollen and isolated flavonoids in sera of adult male rabbits

This study presents the effects of date palm pollen grains-DPP (Phoenixdactylifera) and isolated flavonoids on the level of cholesterol, triglycerides-TG, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol HDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol LDL-C and very low-density lipoprotein VLDL in sera of 49 adult male rabbits divided randomly into seven groups (7 animals in each group), in which G1, G2 and G3 treated with (30,60 and 90) mg/kg/day of DPP respectively, while the G4, G5 and G6 were treated with(7.5,15 and 30) mg /kg/day of isolated flavonoids from DPP respectively compared with non-treated group C1 as control. The results indicate that the level of cholesterol significantly decreased in sera of G1, G2 and G3, and also in sera of rabbits in G4 and G5as compared with C1, while the level of TG show slightly reduced in sera of G1,G3 and significantly increased in G6as compared with C1. In the other hand our results indicate that the important effect to improve the level of HDL-C may be due to the action of flavonoids at dose 15mg/Kg of body weight with no important effect of DPP to the serum level of HDL-C, and also reduced the levels of LDL-C in all groups treated with DPP and flavonoids, with no important effect to the level of VLDL-Cin sera of all groups.Our results also indicate that DPP grains and flavonoids have anti atherosclerotic effects in high dose. From all the above results we can conclude that pollen grains of date palm and its isolated flavonoids have hypolipidemic and anti atherosclerotic effects.

Body Mass Index (BMI), lipid profile, leptin level and their correlation with Prostate Specific Antigen(PSA) in Iraqi patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent problem among older men . There is controversy about the risk factors that contribute to the development and aggravation of BPH, diet and obesity may have a major role in the development of BPH. This study investigate body mass index (BMI) as a marker of obesity, leptin level, and lipid profile in correlation with the prostate-specific antigen PSA in symptomatic BPH Iraqi patients.
Patients and Methods : Randomly selected twenty patients newly diagnosed with BPH visited Baghdad hospital for special surgery, including 10 non-obese patients with BPH,and 10 overweight or obese patients with BPH. Body mass index (BMI ) was calculated and blood samples were drawn to determine fasting blood glucose (FBG) , total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol , serum leptin , and prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
Results : BMI value ,Triglycerides , and serum leptin was significantly higher in overweight or obese patients ( p ˂ 0.05 ),and there was non significant high level of FBG , PSA , total cholesterol compared to non obese ( p ˃0.05 ). Significant lower level of HDL cholesterol was also noticed inobese patients (p ˂0.5 ). In non obese patients, . PSA correlated negatively with BMI,leptin, triglycerides and FBG, positively with total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol. While inobesepatients , PSA correlated negatively with BMI, leptin, HDL cholesterol,and FBG .PSA correlated positively with total cholesterol and triglycerides .
Conclusion :In this study , obesity marker like serum leptin ,BMI and triglycerides , was significantly higher in overweight/obese BPH patients compared to non obese,but correlated negatively with PSA (except with triglycerides) . Further research exploring relationship of diet, obesity with prostate cancer and BPH will lead to understanding of the complex inter-relationship.

Effects of Ramadan Fasting on Lipid Profiles In Normal Subjects.

Fasting during Ramadan is a religious duty for all healthy adult muslims, fasting is abstention from food and drink from sunset to down.The study was conducted on the undergraduate students and officers of the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Engineering ,University of Tikrit.Twenty five apparently healthy students volunteered participated in the study. Their ages ranging from (18-50) years. Serum lipid profile were measured for this group.The investigations were done in the laboratories of Tikrit Teaching Hospital from Oct .to Nov.2004. Average duration of the fasting was about 12 hours and maximum ambient temperature ranged from 10-12 C. The study was conducted in three trails. The first trial during a period extending up to one week before Ramadan fasting, the second trail during the 7,8,9th days of Ramadan fasting, the third trail during the 7,8,9th days of Ramadan fasting ,the third trail during 27,28,29 th days of Ramadan fasting. During each trail five ml of blood was collected from vein by a disposable syringe and centrifuged (centrifuge 1500 r/min) and serum kept in deep freeze at -20C for biochemical analysis( lipid profile).The instrument used for the determination of lipid profile is the spectrophotometer .There was a non significant decrease in concentration of serum cholesterol at the beginning of Ramadan as compared to pre-ramadan values and there was a non significant increase in concentration of serum cholesterol at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-ramadan values.There was a non significant decrease in concentration of serum triglycerides at the beginning of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values and there was a significant decrease in concentration of serum triglyceride at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values.There was a non significant decrease in concentration of serum VLDL at the beginning of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values and there was a significant decrease in concentration of VLDL at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values.There was a non significant decrease in concentration of serum LDL at the beginning of Ramadan as compared to pre-ramadan values and there was a significant increase in concentration of serum LDL at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values.There was a significant decrease in concentration of serum HDL at the beginning of Ramadan as compared to pre-ramadan values and there was a significant decrease in concentration of serum HDL at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values.There was a non significant decrease in body weight at the end of Ramadan as compared to pre-Ramadan values
